Feed the Birds Day 2008 25/26 October

RSPB Feed the Birds Day is a great opportunity to step up your feeding to help garden birds through the cold months ahead. It takes place every year on the third weekend of October.

People that come to our events can also find out all about our exciting 'Homes for Wildlife' project. Click on the link to the right to find out how to take part and make your home and garden a haven for wildlife.

Why feed birds?

It's good to feed birds all year round - for warmth in the cold weather and energy during the breeding season.

'It's good to feed birds all year round - for warmth in the cold weather and energy during the breeding season'

Providing a little food, water and shelter can really help birds through the winter - and turn your garden into a wildlife haven for you to enjoy.

Why have Feed the Birds Day in October?

Feed the Birds Day marks the clocks going back and the winter nights drawing in - it's the time when birds and other wildlife need a little extra help as the first frost looms.

So please fill your feeders, clean your bird tables, put out some water and give a helping hand to the wild birds around you.

And the sooner you start feeding them, the more birds you'll see when you sit down to enjoy the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch in January! You may be surprised how the number changes according to the food you put out.

North Ayrshire Events

The North Ayrshire RSPB Local Group will be holding 2 Feed the Birds events this year - on Saturday 18th October in the foyer at Tesco, Irvine, and on Sunday 19th October at ASDA, Ardrossan. Please pop by, and say hello, and stock up with your birdfood, and if you have a spare hour, why not help to man our stall.
